Teagasc to run horsemanship course in Cork PDF Print E-mail

Teagasc is holding a horsemanship course over ten weeks at Maryville Equestrian Centre in Carrigaline, Co. Cork.

Participants will be shown how to commence basic handling, how to show a horse in hand, lunging on the flat and over a fence and how to loose school a young horse.

The instructor for the course in Teagasc Equine Specialist Advisor, Declan McArdle and it is FETAC level 5 accredited course.

This is a hands on course and participants must bring their own horse.  Participants must also bring the following equipment:

  • Hard hat (Kitemark, at least PAS 015 or EN 1384)
  • Gloves
  • Suitable footwear
  • Head collar & lead rope
  • Grooming kit
  • Lunge line, cavesson & lunge whip
  • Schooling whip
  • Bridle
  • Numnah
  • Roller
  • Side reins
  • Breat plate
  • Brushing boots

Places on the course, costing €200, are limited to ten people, so early booking is recommended.  The first day of the course will take place during the full day while thereafter each session will take place on a morning or afternoon.
